The KDIGO guidelines have been updated to reflect new data on the benefits of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors and nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs) in patients with type 2 diabetes and CKD. The update includes one new recommendation for SGLT2 inhibitors for patients with eGFR as low as 20 mL/min/1.73 m² and suggests nonsteroidal MRAs for patients with eGFR ≥25 mL/min/1.73 m² and increased albuminuria. The guidelines emphasize the benefits of early and broad application of these agents in managing patients with type 2 diabetes and proteinuric CKD.
