SEPSIS Apio

Dr. APIO ESTHER

The document defines sepsis as life‑threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection and outlines the updated definitions of septic shock. It presents global and Ugandan epidemiology, highlighting the high mortality burden. Etiologic agents across bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa are described, along with risk factors and typical blood‑culture yields. Management sections detail vital‑sign monitoring, the one‑hour bundle (fluid resuscitation, antimicrobial therapy, and source control), and specific approaches for septic shock. References to the Surviving Sepsis Campaign and recent Ugandan studies support the recommendations.
