Gout flares are episodes of intense inflammation that can lead to significant cardiovascular events. Recent findings indicate that patients experiencing gout flares have a heightened risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications in the weeks following a flare. The review emphasizes the importance of treating gout to target serum urate levels to mitigate these risks and suggests that prophylactic treatment with colchicine may also be beneficial in reducing cardiovascular events.
