Hyperglycaemic crises are serious medical emergencies primarily caused by insulin deficiency and dehydration. DKA is characterized by uncontrolled catabolism due to insulin deficiency, leading to metabolic acidosis and ketosis. HHS presents with severe hyperglycemia and dehydration, often resulting in altered mental status. Effective management involves fluid therapy, insulin administration, and electrolyte correction, along with addressing underlying causes.
