Elderly patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) face increased cardiovascular disease risk. This randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled trial enrolled 96 patients aged 65 and older to assess the impact of synbiotic supplementation on weight and metabolic health. The study found significant improvements in weight, body mass index, and lipid profiles in the synbiotic group compared to placebo, suggesting potential benefits of synbiotics in managing metabolic health in this population.
