The study investigates whether initiating treatment with tirzepatide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, early in the course of type 2 diabetes can lead to better glycemic control than current treatment methods. Conducted across 78 sites in 10 countries, the trial involved 794 adults with a history of type 2 diabetes. The primary objective was to demonstrate the noninferiority of tirzepatide compared to intensified conventional care in reducing hemoglobin A1c levels over two years.
