Heart failure (HF) and liver disease often co-exist due to systemic disorders that impact both organs. This review focuses on the pathophysiology of cardiohepatic interactions, including acute cardiogenic liver injury and congestive hepatopathy in HF, as well as cardiac dysfunction in liver cirrhosis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. It also explores the emerging roles of liver X receptor signaling and the intestinal microbiome in these conditions, suggesting areas for future research.
