Atrial fibrillation is a prevalent heart rhythm disorder that significantly increases the risk of stroke. This research, presented at the EHRA 2023 congress, analyzed data from over 51,000 patients to determine the impact of statin use on stroke risk. Findings indicate that patients who initiated statin therapy within a year of their atrial fibrillation diagnosis experienced a lower incidence of stroke and transient ischaemic attacks, with long-term use providing even greater protection. These results underscore the potential role of statins in stroke prevention for this high-risk population.
