Aldosterone is crucial for blood pressure regulation, especially during hypovolaemia. Inappropriate secretion of aldosterone can lead to cardiovascular and renal damage in conditions like resistant hypertension and heart failure. While mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists are commonly used, they do not fully address the issues caused by aldosterone. Aldosterone synthase inhibitors represent a new therapeutic approach that has shown promise in clinical trials for reducing aldosterone levels and improving blood pressure control in affected patients.
