ATRIAL FIBRILLATION AND HEART FAILURE: NOVEL INSIGHTS INTO THE CHICKEN AND EGG DILEMMA

Department of Internal Medicine II, University Medical Centre Regensburg; Clinic for Cardiology and Pneumology, Georg-August University Göttingen

Heart failure and atrial fibrillation are significant cardiovascular diseases that often coexist, complicating patient management. The document discusses recent clinical evidence indicating that AF can lead to left-ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) and how interventions like catheter ablation may improve outcomes for patients with both conditions. It also addresses the ambiguity surrounding the causal relationship between AF and LVSD, emphasizing the need for further research in this area.
