The assessment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) can range from simple symptom checks to complex diagnostic tests. While traditional methods have been endorsed, they often fail to meet FDA requirements for clinical trials. The document discusses the potential of corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) as a non-invasive method for evaluating sensory C-fibers, suggesting it may serve as a reliable surrogate endpoint for DPN. The findings indicate that CCM could improve the diagnostic performance for early nerve damage and assist in the screening of microvascular complications.
